On 14 September 2026, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced the launch of Companies House, a new organisation established to unify company registration and licensing procedures across Qatar’s special economic zones. According to the announcement, Companies House will act as a central gateway for businesses operating within the Qatar Financial Centre, Qatar Free Zones Authority, Qatar Science & Technology Park and Media City Qatar.
Under its announced mandate, Companies House will be responsible for company registration and licensing, maintaining the public registers of participating zones, and providing certain supporting services, including tax and immigration services and compliance verification relating to labour standards and data protection requirements.
The creation of Companies House is noteworthy as it represents the first effort to centralise company incorporation, licensing and administrative services across Qatar’s principal special economic zones, which have historically operated under separate regulatory frameworks. By providing a unified gateway for investors, the initiative is expected to simplify market entry and further support Qatar’s efforts to enhance the attractiveness and competitiveness of its investment environment in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
While the announcement outlines the intended framework and objectives of Companies House, the legal and regulatory instruments governing its operation have not yet been published. As such, important questions remain regarding implementation, including the transition of existing registration functions, the applicable procedures, implementation timelines and the allocation of responsibilities between Companies House and the participating economic zone authorities.
We will continue to monitor developments and provide further updates as the legislative and regulatory framework governing Companies House is published.
